Melbourne University engaged us to revitalise two communal study lounges and a large multipurpose recreational space that were tired and in need of refurbishment.
We worked closely with the client to understand how students live on campus year-round and how these spaces support them. We then developed an overarching design concept with considered colours, materials and a relaxed contemporary aesthetic.
Our team designed key custom pieces including study booths, boardroom tables, feature lounge pods and modular cinema seating, complemented by carefully selected off‑the‑shelf furniture to meet the project’s requirements. We also tested and presented multiple layout options to ensure the spaces were fully maximised and efficiently programmed.
Drawing on our international supplier network, we developed the custom products through multiple rounds of sampling and review to ensure the highest quality of materials and construction. ROOM delivered and installed the new furniture to a tight program, enabling an efficient, low‑stress refurbishment process for our client. The university was delighted to hand the transformed spaces over to students, and we look forward to extending these ranges as further refurbishments roll out across the campus.
